We have a full processing facility right on site at Hough Heritage Farm.
All of our animals never see the inside of a transport truck or abattoir, every animal is processed quickly and humanely on site.
Why we slaughter on site in our own facility:
We are Farm Gate Plus licensed. We built this on-farm abattoir so our animals would never know the pain of transport. Canada has some of the worst livestock transport regulations in the industrialized world. Current Canadian regulations allow cattle to be transported up to 52 hours, with no food or water and no minimum temperature threshold. Pigs and chickens can be transported up to 36 hours with no food or water and no minimum temperature threshold. 94% of beef in Canada is processed by two multinational multi-billionaire conglomerates, JBS and Cargill that receive livestock from all over Canada using these inhumane transport regulations.
